CBSE alternative assessment Gulf Iran : The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has implemented a new evaluation strategy for Class 12 pupils in the Gulf countries and Iran. This decision comes after exams were canceled or postponed owing to continued regional tensions. The move seeks to secure students’ academic futures while remaining fair.
Thousands of students from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, and Iran were affected. Many tests had to be cancelled, causing confusion and tension among students and parents. To address this, CBSE introduced an alternative evaluation system.
CBSE alternative assessment Gulf Iran: new rules for fair results
Under the new approach, students who have already taken exams will receive grades based on their actual performance. However, for topics where no exams were held, the CBSE would rely on internal school data. These include practical marks, project work, and previous test results.
Schools must submit results from three exams for theory courses such as math, English, and biology: quarterly, semi-annual, and pre-board. The highest of these marks will be used to determine the final results.
Students are also placed into groups based on the number of tests they have completed. This ensures that each student is graded fairly based on their current situation.

On the plus side, this technique offers alleviation. Students will not lose a year due to circumstances beyond their control. It also ensures that results are released on schedule and in accordance with global CBSE pupils.
However, there are issues. Some pupils believe internal grades do not accurately reflect their abilities. Those who planned to achieve higher on subsequent exams may feel disadvantaged. Parents also have concerns about college admissions and fairness.

According to experts, this strategy is similar to the methodology adopted during COVID-19, in which internal assessments played an important part. It demonstrates that educational systems are adjusting to global issues.
CBSE has stated that all instructions will be communicated with schools. Authorities have requested that schools upload grades within the time frame specified and strictly adhere to the requirements.
More clarity is expected over the next few weeks. Students are reminded to stay informed and calm during this uncertain period. The focus remains on fair results and student safety.
