Burnaby shooting : An Indian-origin man was shot dead in a targeted attack in Burnaby, Canada, on Thursday, in what investigators said was the latest incident tied to the province’s long-running gang violence.
The victim, Dilraj Singh Gill, 28, of Vancouver, was identified by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT), which took over the investigation from the Burnaby Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Investigators suspect the shooting was not random and was related to the province’s ongoing gang conflict.
Burnaby Shooting Occurred During Evening Rush Hour
During the evening rush hour, the incident occurred just before 5.30 p.m. in the 3700 block of Canada Way, near Boundary Road. Burnaby RCMP officers responded to multiple reports of shooting and discovered Gill with significant gunshot wounds in what is thought to be a gas station parking lot. Despite quick life-saving efforts by first responders, he was pronounced dead on the site.
Burned Vehicle Linked to Burnaby Shooting Under Investigation
Around the same time, a vehicle was reported to be on fire near Royal Oak Avenue and Deer Lake Park. The police are investigating whether the burned vehicle is linked to the shooting and was utilized as a getaway car.

According to police and court records, Gill had a previous history of drug-related offenses. In late 2022, the Abbotsford Police Department initiated a large narcotics investigation against him. Investigators have tied him to the old Kang or Brothers in Blood Organization faction, which formerly fought rival organizations in British Columbia’s long-running gang conflict.

Police Appeal for Information
IHIT Sergeant Freda Fong stated: “Homicide investigators are working closely with Burnaby RCMP, the Lower Mainland District Integrated Forensic Identification Service and the BC Coroners Service to gather evidence.”
Authorities have asked the public for witnesses, dashcam footage, or any other information that could help the investigation, emphasizing that the death appeared to have been planned.
No arrests have been revealed thus far, and the investigation is still underway.
