Amrita Singh, a veteran Bollywood actress turned 68 Today. She is known for her powerful screen presence and versatility, having appeared in a number of famous films over the years, including Betaab, Shootout at Lokhandwala, 2 States, and Badla.

On the occasion of her birthday, an unusual incident from her early career has resurfaced: how she was cast in her debut film Betaab, which also marked Sunny Deol’s acting debut.

How Dharmendra Finalised Amrita Singh for Betaab

Sunny Deol’s debut film, Betaab, was released in 1983, and his father, famous actor Dharmendra, personally oversaw the casting of the female protagonist. Amrita Singh previously stated that she had no prior ambitions to enter the film industry and comes from a family with no ties to movies.

According to the actress, Dharmendra was looking for a good face to launch Sunny Deol and met her family on a trip to Delhi. Despite her mother’s initial objections, circumstances coincided, and she was unexpectedly chosen for the role.

Amrita Singh was just 16-17 years old at the time, and she has regarded her casting as a chance encounter rather than a deliberate career move.

Betaab: Film Details and Legacy

Betaab is directed by Rahul Rawail and written by Javed Akhtar. It tells the narrative of two young people who fall in love while dealing with emotional and familial issues. The film’s ensemble cast included Sunny Deol, Amrita Singh, Shammi Kapoor, Nirupa Roy, and Prem Chopra.
