Notably, the Nur Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi’s Chakala suffered severe damage in May last year as a result of India’s coordinated strikes on major military installations in Pakistan as part of Operation Sindoor, which was carried out in retaliation by the Indian Armed Forces.

In retaliation for the April 22 terror assault in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, the Indian Armed Forces started Operation Sindoor early on May 7.
Maxar Technologies’ satellite photographs from May 13 indicated serious damage to various air bases in Pakistan, including Nur Khan Air Base.
Four Pakistani air bases are damaged in the images: PAF Base Shahbaz in Jacobabad, Bholari Air Base, PAF Base Mushaf in Sargodha, and Nur Khan Air Base in Rawalpindi.
The raids on Nur Khan Air Base were confirmed by satellite photos taken on April 25, 2025, and May 10, 2025, which revealed damage to airbase facilities.
The Afghan defence ministry added that the operation was started in response to airstrikes that the Pakistani army had carried out “last night and today” against Kabul, Bagram, and other locations.
“Based on preliminary evidence, these attacks caused severe damage to the aforementioned targets. This operation was carried out in retaliation to the Pakistani army’s attacks on Kabul, Bagram, and other regions last night and today,” the statement stated.
The ministry warned against further escalation and stated that any violation of Afghan airspace or “lack of respect by the evil parties in Pakistan” will result in a serious retaliation.
Recent allegations of cross-border strikes indicate a rapid rise in hostilities between the two adjacent countries.
