The Abu Dhabi Police have issued a strong warning about a popular mobile application that scammers use to steal money from people’s bank accounts. According to officials, many users unwittingly provide others access to their phones, resulting in financial loss.
According to officials, cyber crooks approach customers by encouraging them to download a remote access app. These programs appear to be safe and are frequently distributed by texts, phone calls, or false customer service. Once installed, scammers can take control of the phone without the user recognizing it.
Police encouraged the public not to respond to strange phone calls asking software downloads or the exchange of personal or financial information. They emphasized that banks and financial institutions never solicit customers for account information, card numbers, passwords, PINs, or one-time passwords.
To avoid becoming a victim of fraud, residents were encouraged to download software only from legitimate and reputable sources and to avoid sharing private information.
Abu Dhabi Police also urged the public to report any suspected fraud efforts using the “Aman” service by phoning 8002626, texting 2828, or visiting the nearest police station.
The alert also stressed the need of adopting security software and keeping equipment up to date to protect against cyber threats.
