NEET Paper Leak: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet against 13 suspects in the NEET Paper Leak case, signalling a significant move in one of India’s largest examination fraud investigations. According to the agency, the suspected scam included NTA topic experts, professors, coaching personnel, middlemen, and candidates who allegedly profited from the leaked question paper.
On July 28, the chargesheet was submitted to Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court. The suspects have been charged under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.
The probe began after the Central government turned over the issue to the CBI following claims of major anomalies in the NEET-UG 2026 exam.
NEET Paper Leak Investigation Reveals Organised Network
According to the CBI, the inquiry revealed a well-organized gang that reportedly operated at various phases of the examination process. According to investigators, the network included NTA topic experts who assisted with paper-setting, professors, coaching personnel, intermediaries, and candidates who allegedly obtained access to the confidential question paper prior to the exam.
The agency stated that all 13 accused named in the chargesheet are currently in judicial custody. The investigation is supported by hundreds of documents, digital records, witness statements and forensic evidence collected during the probe.
CBI officials also informed the court that forensic examination of electronic devices and digital evidence is still underway. As a result, the agency has indicated that supplementary chargesheets may be filed if fresh evidence emerges or additional individuals are found to be involved.
While the chargesheet mentions NTA subject specialists who were allegedly involved in the paper-setting process, the CBI has stated that the inquiry is still ongoing and that other discoveries may emerge as the investigation proceeds.
NEET Paper Leak Case Raises Fresh Concerns Over Exam Security
The NEET-UG examination is India’s largest medical entrance exam, with millions of candidates competing each year for admission to undergraduate medical and dentistry programs. Any flaws in the examination process can harm qualified candidates and erode public trust in the country’s assessment system.
The purported NEET Paper Leak has renewed major concerns regarding the security of high-stakes exams. Education experts have consistently asked for improved digital security, tighter control over confidential exam papers, and faster judicial action against individuals who commit exam fraud.
Although the release of the chargesheet is a significant milestone, the case is far from over. Before deciding whether the accused is guilty or innocent, the court will consider the evidence submitted by the CBI.
Meanwhile, detectives are examining digital records, financial transactions, and other evidence to determine whether more people were involved in the alleged scheme. The investigation’s findings are expected to play a significant role in boosting the security and credibility of future competitive examinations in India.
