The flow of Gaza aid remains under pressure as Israeli restrictions and continued border closures limit the movement of humanitarian supplies into the territory, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA). While relief deliveries continue through limited channels, UN officials say the volume of assistance remains below the level needed to support civilians facing difficult living conditions.
According to the most recent assessment, humanitarian groups continue to experience significant challenges in delivering food, medical supplies, and other necessary items. Aid organizations have cautioned that persistent access restrictions are decreasing the efficacy of aid efforts and posing new obstacles for Gaza residents.
Gaza Aid Restrictions Reduce Humanitarian Supplies
According to UNOCHA, Israel continues to limit the passage of commodities through the Karem Abu Salem crossing, known in Israel as Kerem Shalom, which is now the primary route for humanitarian cargo into Gaza. The bridge is near the borders of Israel, Egypt, and Gaza, and it is still one of the few operable entrance points for humanitarian aid.
According to the UN organization, only 42% of humanitarian cargo arriving from Egypt and 65% of cargoes moved from Ashdod Port were successfully unloaded at the crossing in the previous week. Due to operating limits and logistical limitations, the remaining shipment was delayed or unable to enter.
The report also highlighted a decline in overall Gaza aid deliveries. The United Nations and its humanitarian partners delivered around 42,000 pallets of assistance in June, compared with approximately 46,600 pallets in May. The decrease reflects continuing challenges in maintaining a stable flow of humanitarian supplies into the territory.
UNOCHA also stated that all other border crossings remain closed to cargo traffic, while limitations on the entry of specific types of goods continue in effect. According to humanitarian organizations, these constraints continue to stymie assistance efforts, despite rising civilian needs in Gaza.
Gaza Humanitarian Aid Efforts Continue Despite Border Closures
Despite continued hurdles, international humanitarian organizations are working to strengthen civilian aid. A delegation from UNOCHA, led by senior World Health Organization (WHO) officials, recently visited the UAE Field Hospital in Gaza to assess medical services and discuss how to improve humanitarian coordination.
During their visit, officials toured hospital departments, heard information on healthcare operations, and met with the UAE medical team to discuss potential areas of collaboration. The discussions centered on boosting emergency healthcare services, assisting medical personnel, and providing humanitarian assistance to those affected by the ongoing crisis.
The tour ended with an exchange of commemorative presents between the visiting group and the UAE medical team, reflecting the ongoing collaboration between international humanitarian organizations and healthcare providers working in Gaza. Officials suggested that better cooperation could assist improve medical services despite the tough operating environment.
Humanitarian organizations continue to advocate for safe and continuous access to Gaza aid, emphasizing that uninterrupted deliveries are critical for food security, healthcare, and other basic services. UNOCHA believes that increasing the volume of humanitarian aid entering Gaza will help relief agencies to respond more effectively to humanitarian needs while also supporting hospitals, emergency services, and vulnerable people throughout the region.
