India Chile Relations Gain Momentum During Chile FM’s India Visit

India Chile Relation :India and Chile are poised to deepen diplomatic and commercial ties as Chile’s Foreign Affairs Minister Francisco Perez Mackenna begins his official tour to India on May 9-15. Despite increasing global economic uncertainties, the high-level visit comes at a time when both countries are seeking to strengthen trade relations, secure crucial mineral supplies, and expand corporate partnerships.

According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the Chilean minister would engage with many Indian politicians and business groups during his week-long visit. The visit is likely to concentrate mostly on trade agreements, investment opportunities, and collaboration in industries such as mining, food imports, technology, and clean energy.

During his visit, Francisco Perez Mackenna will meet with S. Jaishankar, India’s External Affairs Minister, and Piyush Goyal, Commerce Minister. Officials said the conversations might help speed up negotiations for a free trade agreement between the two countries.

India has expressed a great desire to strengthen connections with Chile because the South American country has vast supplies of lithium and copper, both of which are essential for electric vehicles, batteries, and contemporary businesses. The Chilean minister will also attend a number of commercial and industrial events in New Delhi. Meetings with the Forum of Indian Food Importers, ASSOCHAM, and the Confederation of Indian Industry are scheduled as part of attempts to improve economic cooperation between enterprises in both countries.

These meetings are scheduled to feature discussions between business leaders from both countries about agriculture, renewable energy, food processing, and digital technologies. Officials think that the visit will stimulate new investments and strengthen trade ties between Indian and Chilean enterprises.

Last year, India and Chile continued negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which aims to increase trade beyond the two nations’ present Preferential Trade Agreement. According to economic commentators, the proposed deal has the potential to boost exports, lower trade obstacles, and promote strategic sector cooperation.

India’s bilateral trade with Chile has expanded substantially in recent years. According to government data, trade between the two countries has reached billions of dollars, with increased demand for minerals, chemicals, agricultural items, and industrial products. However, due to high mineral and raw material imports, India continues to have a trade imbalance with Chile.
