Deepak Chahar MI loss DC IPL 2026 reveals team was 10–15 runs short

Deepak Chahar Admits MI Fell Short Against DC : Mumbai Indians pacer Deepak Chahar stated that the Mumbai Indians (MI) fell 10-15 runs short of the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the two teams’ second Indian Premier League (IPL) match of the season. DC overcame MI by six wickets for their second straight tournament victory.

Mumbai Indians batted first and scored 162/6 in 20 overs, which the Delhi Capitals knocked down with 11 balls remaining with to Sameer Rizvi’s 51-ball 90-run effort.

Deepak Chahar, speaking at the post-match news conference, stated the pitch was damp and played slowly, making the toss crucial. He felt this contributed to the Mumbai Indians falling 10-15 runs short.

“I believe the wicket was a little slower. I believe the toss was critical. I assume there was some wetness there. I wouldn’t call it slow; it was only that I could feel the moisture, and the toss was critical in this regard, which is why we were 10-15 runs short,” Chahar explained.

The Mumbai Indians also did not have their chosen captain, Hardik Pandya, available due to illness. When asked if Pandya’s absence had an influence on the squad, Chahar said it did. He said that defending a score of 160 in a daylight game was difficult without frequent wickets, and Sameer Rizvi’s good innings was the difference, stating that the game may have been closer if they had dismissed him early.

Chahar stated after the match that the pitch conditions played a significant effect. He noted that there was a little dampness on the surface, making batting tough early on. According to him, the toss became really significant, and Mumbai was unable to take full advantage of the situation.

He explicitly claimed that the squad missed perhaps 10-15 extra runs, which could have affected the outcome. This modest distance grew into a significant differential during the chase.

Experts feel Mumbai’s middle order struggled to accelerate, particularly in the closing overs. This lack of finishing strength is today regarded as the primary reason for the defeat.

Chahar also stated that the surface grew easier to bat on later, giving the Delhi Capitals an advantage in the chase. This demonstrates how significant match timing and toss decisions were in this game.

While the result is disappointing, it does send a clear message to the Mumbai Indians. The squad must strengthen its batting depth and finish games stronger.

Finally, Chahar’s honest comment captures both the problem and the potential. The Mumbai Indians fought hard but missed crucial runs, while the Delhi Capitals took advantage of the situation and won easily.
