Security Alert for Marco Rubio and Pete Hegseth : Drones Detected Over US Army Facility in Washington Where Rubio, Hegseth Reside

Unidentified drones have raised security concerns in Washington after being sighted hovering over a critical US Army station housing important officials such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth. Mysterious drones were detected over Fort Lesley J. McNair, a strategically located location for senior military leadership. Officials reported that many drones were discovered on a single night in the last ten days, requiring urgent security inspections and a high-level conference at the White House to examine potential dangers.

This comes against the backdrop of rising global tensions, as the United States and Israel launch strikes against Iran. A senior administration official stated that the military has greatly increased monitoring and preparedness in anticipation of retaliation attacks.

Rubio and Hegseth’s migration is being considered

The drone activity has caused enough concern for officials to contemplate transferring Rubio and Hegseth from the base, though both leaders remain in place for the moment. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said, “The department cannot comment on the secretary’s movements for security reasons, and reporting on such movements is grossly irresponsible.”

As tensions grow, the US has issued a global security alert for its diplomatic missions, while strengthening security at some domestic military locations. Bases like Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst and MacDill Air Force Base have raised their force protection level to “Charlie,” indicating reliable intelligence of a possible threat.

Tensions rose further this week at MacDill Air Force Base, home to the United States Central Command, which supervises operations against Iran. A suspected item sparked an FBI investigation, while a separate security incident necessitated a lengthy shelter-in-place order.

“To ensure the safety and security of our people and the mission, commanders adjust their installation’s security posture in accordance with local threat assessments,” according to a representative for the Air Force.

Meanwhile, the State Department has directed all US diplomatic missions abroad to “immediately” evaluate their security protocols, citing “the ongoing and developing situation in the Middle East and the potential for spillover effects.”

Though Fort Lesley J. McNair is near to the White House and Capitol Hill, its low security buffer in comparison to other facilities has sparked increased concern. In recent years, it has increasingly housed high-ranking officials, including former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, despite mounting safety concerns.

The drone concern reflects a larger trend. US officials have long warned of evolving aerial dangers linked to geopolitical tensions, particularly since the death of Iranian general Qasem Soleimani in a US attack in 2020.

During Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, security services reported similar drone encounters, including close-range sightings during public appearances and motorcades. Officials have also informed Trump of genuine assassination threats from Iran, though there was no concrete evidence linking Tehran to attempted strikes.

Iran had also targeted former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former National Security Adviser John Bolton, causing the Biden administration to prolong their security protection, which was eventually lifted in 2025.
