“White supremacist Jake Lang planned a bigoted, racist protest outside Gracie Mansion yesterday. Such hatred is unacceptable in New York City. It is an assault to our city’s principles and the unity that characterises our identity. What followed was much more distressing. Violence at a protest is never acceptable. The attempt to use an explosive device to harm people is not only illegal, but it is also immoral and contradictory to our values. I’d want to thank the brave men and women of the NYPD who moved promptly to protect New Yorkers safe. Our cops raced into danger without hesitation, exhibiting once more the courage and dedication required to safeguard this city every day.
Yesterday, white supremacist Jake Lang organized a protest outside Gracie Mansion rooted in bigotry and racism. Such hate has no place in New York City. It is an affront to our city’s values and the unity that defines who we are.
What followed was even more disturbing. Violence…

“My administration is closely monitoring the situation, and I am in close contact with our Police Commissioner,” the NYC Mayor wrote on X.
CNN previously claimed that the violence occurred when an anti-Islam demonstration arranged by right-wing blogger Jake Lang clashed with a larger counter-protest during the holy month of Ramadan, resulting in the ignition and deployment of two “suspicious” explosives. It said that about 20 minutes later, an 18-year-old counter-protester “lit and threw an ignited device toward the protest area,” which fell on a crosswalk.
After the initial throw, the suspect allegedly raced to a 19-year-old associate to fetch a second device. He also lighted the second object before dropping it on the street, as authorities moved in to secure the scene. Both males were among the six people arrested during the police raid.
