Tel Aviv [Israel]: Before the PM Modi’s visit to Israel, the former Israeli ambassador to India On Tuesday , Daniel Carmon underlined that the relationship between the nations goes beyond leadership and includes shared values and interests.

Carmon explained how the linkages, which were initially subtle, became more obvious in 2014, particularly in defence, and have subsequently spread across multiple industries.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Tuesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay a State visit to Israel from February 25 to 26.

In a conversation with news channel, Carmon stated: “First, it was under the radar and it was discreet, then it became visible in 2014, much in the defence sector, but also in other sectors that benefit the governments and the peoples of both countries… The content of the relationship has deepened and enlarged by far and in an unprecedented way.”

“No one can deny that the two leaders are speaking the same language. But others do, too. I prefer to look at the relationship, and the process that began even before we had diplomatic relations, as an issue between governments and peoples rather than specific leaders, despite the fact that they speak the same language and have similar points of view and interests,” he said.

Daniel Carmon stated

Carmon stated that, while the visit would commemorate strong bilateral ties, it might also open the door for new regional partnerships in the changing global order.

He cited projects like IMEC and I2U2 as examples of collaborative frameworks that might bring India and Israel closer together with other similar-minded countries.

“The two countries have laid the groundwork for a strong bilateral relationship. This will be celebrated during the visit. However, there may be a look beyond in a world rattled by a new world order. Local ad hoc regional partnerships will be very welcome today and in the future. It is possible that the two leaders and governments would discuss the possibilities of collaborating with other parties tomorrow and the next day,” Carmon said.

“We have the IMEC, which is crucial for India. We have the I2U2 and possibly other architecture relationships that would position the good guys on one side and the bad guys on the other. And India and Israel are undoubtedly on the side of the good folks,” he added.
