On Saturday, a ceremonial welcome was staged at Rashtrapati Bhavan’s forecourt for Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who is on a state visit to India. President Lula was presented with the Guard of Honour at Rashtrapati Bhavan. PM Modi and President Droupadi Murmu greeted the Brazilian President at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
President Lula also spoke with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
On Friday, President Lula launched the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex)’s first office in Delhi. In a post on X, he stated that this would promote Brazilian products and services overseas while also attracting foreign investment to crucial sectors of Brazil’s economy.
Kenneth da Nobrega, Brazil’s envoy to India, expressed gratitude to the Indian government on Friday for holding the AI Impact Summit 2026. Furthermore, he stated that Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who is on a State visit to India, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have a great rapport and are not only colleagues, but also friends.

President Lula and Prime Minister Modi High-Level Meeting
Speaking exclusively to News channel on the blossoming friendship between President Lula and Prime Minister Modi, he said, “This is bringing bilateral relations to a new level. There is a pretty excellent chemistry. I believe they are more than just colleagues; they are also becoming friends. That is a fact.
“This is a historic summit in the Global South, and Prime Minister Modi is sincerely attempting to include the Global South in this critical new wave of technology, AI, which will transform our lives,” Brazil’s ambassador to India explained.
According to the Brazilian envoy to India, “President Lula has arrived in India with the largest delegation ever, with more than 11 cabinet members and over 300 businesses, including 50 CEOs. This brings bilateral relations to a new level.”
Lula’s journey to India comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s July 2025 visit to Brasilia, the first by an Indian prime minister in more than 50 years.
The Brazilian President arrived in India with a huge entourage of senior CEOs from Brazilian companies. The CEOs are expected to attend a business forum.
