A 35-year-old Indian-origin woman from New Jersey has been arrested and charged with the murder of her two young children.
Investigators have identified the accused as Priyatharsini Natarajan, a resident of Hillsborough, New Jersey. Authorities allege that she was responsible for the deaths of her two sons on Tuesday.
Police Receive 911 Call
Somerset County Prosecutor John McDonald said in a statement on Wednesday that on January 13, at around 6:45 p.m., a person believed to be the children’s father called 911.
The caller reported that upon returning home from work, he found his two sons, aged five and seven, lying asleep and stated that “his wife did something to them.” When officers arrived at the residence, they found the caller along with his wife, Priyatharsini Natarajan.
Two Children Found Dead at New Jersey Home
Police officers discovered the two children unresponsive in a bedroom inside the home. Responding officers and medical personnel attempted life-saving measures, but the efforts were unsuccessful.
Both children were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released the identities of the children as the Medical Examiner’s Office continues the formal identification process.

New Jersey Woman Charged With Double Murder
Natarajan was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder, along with one count of third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Hillsborough Township Police officers took her into custody and transported her to the Somerset County Jail, where she is being held pending a detention hearing.
Investigation Ongoing in New Jersey Case
According to Prosecutor McDonald, the investigation is being conducted jointly by the Hillsborough Township Police Department, the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and medical investigators from the New Jersey Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office will also conduct a post-mortem examination to confirm the identities of the victims and determine the cause and manner of death.
