Indian Railways New Service : Indian Railways Sleeper Class Bedroll Service: The Indian Railways is always implementing innovative measures to improve passenger convenience. Southern Railway made a significant announcement on Friday, stating that passengers traveling in non-air conditioned (non-AC) sleeper coaches will henceforth be given with bedsheets, pillows, and pillow covers for a modest price. This facility was previously only available in AC coaches, but millions of non-AC passengers, particularly those traveling long distances during the monsoon and winter, will now be able to travel comfortably.

Indian Railways New Service : What will the prices be?

Price range: ₹50 for a whole set (bedsheet, pillow, and pillow cover), ₹20 for a bedsheet alone, and ₹30 for the pillow and pillow cover.

When and on what trains will the service begin?

This facility will commence on January 1, 2026, and will initially be installed on 10 main express trains operated by the Southern Railway.

The pilot project received a great response.

This initiative was introduced as part of the Railways’ “New Innovative Non-Fare Revenue Ideas Scheme” (NINFRIS), which was launched in 2023-24. The trial project received an amazing response from passengers. It has now been agreed to make it permanent. The entire process of purchasing, mechanically washing, packing, loading, distributing, and storing bedrolls will be leased out, ensuring the highest level of sanitation and quality.

Railways Will Also Benefit.

Over the following three years, this service is projected to increase revenue for the Chennai Division by over ₹28.27 lakh. This initiative, which enhances both passenger convenience and railway revenue, has also received considerable support on social media. Many are describing it as “a small step, a big relief.”
