Tata Harrier : Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle has announced plans for numerous new releases. Among the new cars, the business plans to release petrol versions of the Harrier and Safari SUVs, which have been highly sought for quite some time. Until date, both models were only available in the nation with diesel engines and either manual or automatic gearboxes.
Which engine is used in the Tata Safari and Tata Harrier ?
The Tata Safari and Harrier are slated to have a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine known as the ‘Hyperion’ by the manufacturer, which was first introduced at the Auto Expo 2023. This engine is anticipated to be paired with a dual-clutch or torque converter automatic transmission. It is expected to produce 170 horsepower and 280 Nm of torque. More details will be available when this engine makes its debut alongside the Tata Sierra on November 25.

Furthermore, the introduction of a turbo petrol engine should boost these models’ competitiveness against their rivals, as most competitors in the market offer both petrol and diesel alternatives. Furthermore, this change may result in a drop in the price of both SUVs.
Tata Harrier starts at Rs 14 lakh
Currently, the 2.0-litre diesel engine in the Harrier and Safari produces 167 horsepower and 350 Nm of peak torque. This engine is available with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. The Safari’s starting price is currently Rs 14.66 lakh (ex-showroom), whereas the Harrier starts at Rs 14 lakh.

As a result, in the Indian market, the Harrier competes with vehicles such as the Jeep Compass and MG Hector, and the three-row Safari competes with the Mahindra XUV700, Hyundai Alcazar and Jeep Meridian.
