Former Pentagon official Michael Rubin criticized the United States’ (US) approach toward Pakistan, claiming that Islamabad should be labeled as a’state supporter of terrorism’. He also lambasted the Trump administration for giving Field Marshal Asim Munir a red carpet welcome, saying the Pakistan Army chief’should be detained’ if he visits the United States.
Former Pentagon official Michael Rubin stated Asim Munir should be arrested
Rubin further stated in an interview with ANI that there is ‘no strategic rationale’ for the US to embrace Pakistan, and that the latter should not be considered a key non-NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) partner.
“There is no strategic need for the United States to embrace Pakistan. It should not be a key non-NATO ally. It should be labeled as a state sponsor of terrorism, period. If Asim Munir comes to the United States, he should be arrested rather than honored,” he stated.

The former Pentagon official also disputes Donald Trump’s decision to impose 50% tariffs on India for purchasing Russian oil, claiming the US president owes New Delhi a ‘vocal apology’. However, he said that Trump dislikes apologizing.
“What we need is quiet diplomacy behind the scenes, and possibly, at some time, a more public apology from the United States for how we have handled India over the last year… President Donald Trump dislikes apologizing, but the interests of the United States and international democracies are far more vital than one man’s ego, no matter how inflated,” Rubin stated.
Rubin praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for being elected to represent Indian interests in response to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent announcement that he is willing to supply additional oil to India. He also claimed that the United States is hypocritical because it makes purchases from Russia.

“We’re hypocritical when we lecture India. At the same time, if we do not want India to purchase Russian petroleum, what will we do to deliver fuel to India at a lower cost and in the numbers required? If we don’t have a response, our best course of action is to remain silent because India must first address its own security,” Rubin told ANI.
