Electricity Bill Waiver : Today marks the start of significant relief for Uttar Pradesh’s energy consumers. The Electricity Bill Waiver/Relief Scheme has been established by the state government and UPPCL, with effect from December 1, 2025. The scheme’s goal is to help home and small commercial clients who have long-standing outstanding electricity bills. This is the first time the government has issued a large waiver, which is likely to help millions of people.

This relief program waives all interest and surcharges on outstanding electricity bills. In addition, a 25% reduction will be applied to the principal (real outstanding amount). This benefit is specifically for customers who have outstanding payments, severed connections, or have been penalized for power theft. All of these consumers will be able to lawfully reactivate their connections under the initiative.
The system will be divided into three phases, with the first providing the most benefit.
- Phase 1: December 1 to 31, 2025, 25% discount on principal
- Phase 2: January 1–31, 2026 – 20% discount on principal
- Phase 3: February 1–28, 2026 – 15% discount on principal
How to get the benefits.
Consumers must register for the plan online at the UPPCL website or at their nearest electricity office or convenience store. After paying the required fee at the time of registration, the consumer’s outstanding balances will be computed at the new rates, with interest totally waived. Consumers will then be given the choice of paying the payment in one single sum or in convenient installments.
Effective till February 28, 2026.
This program will run from December 1, 2025 until February 28, 2026. The government believes that this approach will benefit the average customer while also accelerating the department’s income collection. According to the Electricity Department, clients who have fallen behind on their bills or turned to power theft now have an easy way to reinstate their connections.
