Donald Trump : Despite months of opposition, US President Donald Trump signed legislation on Wednesday requiring his administration to divulge papers on convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Trump could have released many of the data himself months ago. “Democrats have used the Epstein’s issue, which impacts them far more than the Republican Party, to detract from our AMAZING Victories,” Trump said on social media after signing the law..

The bill mandates the Justice Department to produce all files

The measure now mandates the Justice Department to reveal all Epstein-related data and conversations, as well as material about the investigation into his death in a federal prison in 2019, within 30 days.

It allows for redactions about Epstein’s victims in current federal investigations, but the DOJ cannot withhold material due to “embarrassment, reputational harm, or political sensitivity.”

It was a stunning change of events for what had earlier seemed like a hopeless effort to compel the production of case files from an unlikely congressional coalition of Democrats, one GOP opponent of the president, and a few of former Trump supporters.

Donald Trump recently summoned Republican supporters of disclosing files.

As recently as last week, the Trump administration brought Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado, a Republican backer of releasing the documents, went to the Situation Room to discuss the subject, but she did not change her mind.

However, as it became evident that congressional action was unavoidable, Trump abruptly reversed his stance on the files over the weekend. He argued that the Epstein case had become a distraction to the GOP’s objectives and expressed a desire to move on.

“I just don’t want Republicans to take their eyes off all of the victories that we’ve had,” Trump wrote in a social media post Tuesday afternoon, explaining his swift turnabout.

The House approved the legislation 427-1, with Rep. Clay Higgins, R-La., voting against it. He stated that the bill’s phrasing could result in the publication of information about innocent people mentioned in the federal inquiry. The Senate later adopted it unanimously without a formal vote.
