Katie Zacharia, a communications advisor for President Donald Trump’s Truth Social platform, has been offered the position of White House press secretary, according to a White House official. Karoline Leavitt’s departure from the government in August left the job vacant.

Zacharia has yet to officially respond to the offer, so her decision is still pending. If she accepts, she will play a key role in explaining the administration’s objectives and answering press questions ahead of next month’s US midterm legislative elections.

CNN claimed that the offer came after conversations with various Trump loyalists and advisers, including Leavitt.

Katie Zacharia’s White House Press Secretary Offer

Zacharia has worked in government communications and conservative political organisations. She temporarily served as a spokesman for the US Department of Homeland Security before quitting in March.

Her LinkedIn page describes her as a senior communications adviser for Truth Social and the Trump Media & Technology Group. She has also worked for Fix California, a conservative organization focused on state politics.

Richard Grenell, the temporary president and executive director of the Kennedy Center in Washington and Trump’s ambassador to Venezuela, formed the organization. CNBC reports that Zacharia is the group’s general attorney.

Zacharia studied law at Pepperdine University. Her career in Republican politics began in 2006, when she interned for the Republican National Committee, CNN reported.

Her experience in political communications and law would prepare her for a potential transition into one of the administration’s most visible roles. The press secretary provides frequent briefings to reporters, answers questions about government policies, and explains the president’s position on significant subjects.

The offer comes as the administration prepares for the November midterm elections. However, Zacharia has yet to declare whether she will accept the role.

Katie Zacharia Press Secretary Role After Leavitt’s Exit

When Trump returned to the White House in January 2025, Leavitt took over as press secretary. At the age of 27, she became the youngest person in US history to hold the role.

Before joining the White House, she was the press secretary for Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, where she became a notable advocate for his political program.

She left the administration in late August after having her second child. Trump stated at the time that Leavitt wanted to spend more time with her family and would continue to advise him from outside of the administration.

Her resignation left an opening for the communications position, which is critical to the White House’s daily interaction with the media.

Leavitt is also preparing for a new career outside of the government. This Monday, Fox News announced that she would become an on-air contributor for the conservative network beginning in November.

Zacharia’s appointment is currently reliant on her acceptance of Trump’s offer. The White House has not announced that she will take over as press secretary.
