A preliminary investigation into an alleged hijacking attempt on a Flydubai flight discovered that co-pilot Hamam al-Hammami intended to crash the plane into Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv. According to investigators, the 29-year-old suspect was inspired by the September 11, 2001 terrorist strikes in the United States.
The event occurred last week during a flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv. The guy allegedly intended to hijack the aeroplane and use it to launch a suicide assault against Israel’s biggest international airport’s passenger terminal.
The conclusions were announced in a statement by the UAE’s attorney general. The investigation is looking at the suspect’s purported intents and reported interest in carrying out an operation akin to the 9/11 hijackings.
Flydubai Co-Pilot Allegedly Planned Airport Attack
The early investigations show that the suspect planned to utilise an aircraft to carry out an assault similar to those carried out on September 11, 2001.
The attorney general stated that the notion affected his decision to pursue a career in aviation. Investigators believe the suspect’s claimed confessions linked his desire to recreate such an operation with his decision to seek a profession in aviation.
The alleged plan included capturing control of the Flydubai aircraft and directing it to the passenger terminal at Ben Gurion Airport, near Tel Aviv. The stated goal was to create the highest number of casualties.
The inquiry classified the purported plot as a deliberate conduct with a terrorist goal. However, the conclusions disclosed thus far are related to the preliminary inquiry and the allegations against the suspect.
Earlier information from an Israeli official and another person familiar with the situation indicated that the airport was the most probable intended target. Both had suggested that the suspect may have intended to attack the facility, which serves as Israel’s primary international gateway.
Flydubai Suspect Was Stopped During Flight
The claimed attempt was unsuccessful when the aircraft’s captain and other passengers intervened. They reportedly restrained al-Hammami and restored control of the aircraft, stopping him from carrying out his purported plot.
The suspect, the flight’s 29-year-old co-pilot, was travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv when the incident occurred last week. The preliminary inquiry has now centred on his suspected intents and the link between his reported words and the planned attack.
The attorney general’s statement explains the suspected target, the claimed purpose, and the plan to seize control of the aircraft. It also discusses how the suspect’s apparent interest in the September 11 attacks influenced his objectives.
According to the initial results of the investigation, the targeted target is Ben Gurion Airport’s passenger terminal. The purported intervention of the pilot and passengers was critical in stopping the alleged effort before the aircraft could be utilised for the planned attack.
The case remains focused on the charges made in the early findings, particularly the suspect’s stated plan to repeat an operation involving a hijacked aeroplane.
