Two missiles were launched toward the international airport in Aden, Yemen, early Wednesday. According to the Aden security department’s media office, no casualties were reported as a result of the attack.
The strike came as combat resumed in Yemen. Houthi forces have advanced along the country’s Red Sea coast in recent weeks.
Saudi-backed government forces have also started a counterattack. They have recovered territory near the vital Bab al-Mandab Strait thanks to coalition air operations.
Aden International Airport serves as the primary international gateway for areas of Yemen that are not under Houthi control. As a result, the most recent missile attack occurred while the two sides were still battling.
Houthis Aden Airport Attack Comes Amid Renewed Fighting
The two missiles were fired toward Aden’s international airport early Wednesday. The security department’s media office stated that there were no casualties.
The raid came after weeks of Houthi advances along Yemen’s Red Sea coastline. In response, Saudi-backed government forces have launched a counteroffensive.
With coalition air support, government forces have retaken territory surrounding the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
The ongoing combat has resulted in increased military activity in regions held by both sides. Aden remains outside of Houthi control, and its airport serves as the primary international gateway for those areas of Yemen.
The developments also included a missile mishap in Saudi Arabia.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Saudi-led coalition announced that it had intercepted and destroyed a Houthi ballistic missile. Saudi state media stated that the missile was launched toward Khamis Mushait in southern Saudi Arabia.
According to the coalition, the missile threats originated from Houthi-controlled territory. It identified Sanaa, Saada, and Amran as the sites where the threats emanated.
Houthis Aden Airport Attack Followed by Report of Saudi Strike
Following the coalition’s declaration, Al Masirah TV, which is connected with the Houthis, reported on another military strike.
The channel reported that Saudi soldiers carried out an attack in the central governorates of Ibb and Taiz.
The claimed strike was not immediately confirmed by the Saudi-led coalition.
The claims emerged as the violence escalated on numerous fronts. Houthi forces have pushed along the Red Sea coast, while Saudi-backed government forces have sought to retake areas.
The government counter-offensive has included regions near the Bab al-Mandab Strait, with coalition air support.
During the increased combat, a missile attack on Aden International Airport occurred, as did a reported strike in Ibb and Taiz. However, there were no reports of injuries from the two missiles that targeted Aden Airport.
The Saudi-led coalition also reported intercepting a ballistic missile intended toward Khamis Mushait. Meanwhile, the coalition did not immediately corroborate Al Masirah TV’s claim of the strike in Ibb and Taiz.
As the war in Yemen heats up, Houthi troops and the Saudi-backed government continue to engage in military activities.
