RAF Fairford Terror Probe: British-Iranian Man Arrested in UK Investigation

A 27-year-old British-Iranian man has been arrested in London as part of the RAF Fairford terror probe following reports of suspicious vehicles near the military airbase in Gloucestershire. UK counter-terrorism police detained the man on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts under Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.

The arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into an incident at the US Air Force base, RAF Fairford. Police are investigating a number of possible avenues, including if a foreign state was involved.

RAF Fairford Terror Probe Leads to Another Arrest

Counter-terrorism authorities arrested the 27-year-old man in London as detectives looked into the facts surrounding the Gloucestershire incident. A second male, aged 26, a British national, has also been questioned under caution by police.

Officers conducted searches on two properties as part of the investigation. Authorities have not publicly provided any information about the premises searched or the specific evidence gathered thus far.

Vicki Evans, Senior National Coordinator for Counter-Terrorism Policing, described the investigation as complicated, with expert teams conducting many lines of inquiry. She stated that investigators were attempting to determine exactly what happened and were investigating all conceivable explanations.

Evans also thanked the public for their continuing support and patience as police worked on the investigation. She stated that the likelihood of foreign state participation remained one of the topics being investigated.

The new arrest comes after the arrests of five British nationals in London on September 27. They were nabbed after police got a tip of suspicious cars near RAF Fairford.

Five Men Released on Bail as Police Continue Investigation

The five men detained on September 27 were initially accused of violating the Explosives Act. The probe eventually extended to include claims of terrorist activity.

All five have now been released on bond, although their cases continue under investigation. Their release does not imply the investigation has concluded, and authorities are still looking into their possible connections to the event.

The new arrest highlights the circumstances surrounding the suspicious cars detected near the Gloucestershire airfield. However, officials have not officially said who was responsible for the incident or whether the suspects worked together.

Investigators are also probing into potential Iranian participation. The topic has received attention as a result of broader tensions between Iran, the United Kingdom, and the United States, specifically the use of British military installations for Iran-related operations.

On Wednesday, UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham informed the BBC that Britain suspected Iran was involved in the tragedy. His remark raised the possibility that the case was linked to operations beyond the United Kingdom.

RAF Fairford’s Role in US Military Operations

RAF Fairford is a major military airbase in Gloucestershire that has been used by the United States Air Force. Its involvement in aiding American military activities has placed it into the spotlight as tensions with Iran rise.

Earlier in 2026, Britain let the US Air Force to launch what it termed as defensive attacks against Iran from the site. The decision emphasised RAF Fairford’s involvement in US military operations in the region.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has previously warned that British military locations utilised by the United States to conduct attacks on Iran would be deemed lawful targets. The alert has raised security worries about installations tied to US military activities.

Police have not identified a clear link between the warnings and the incident near RAF Fairford. The counter-terrorism investigation is still underway, with authorities assessing evidence, questioning witnesses, and investigating alternative explanations.

The recent arrest marks another breakthrough in the case, although authorities have yet to release any final findings or clarify whether a foreign power was involved.
