Lil Durk Acquittal: Rapper Cleared of Murder-for-Hire Charges

The Lil Durk acquittal has cleared the Grammy-winning rapper of all charges in a federal murder-for-hire case in Los Angeles. A jury found Durk Banks, 33, not guilty on Friday in a case linked to the 2022 shooting death of a man during a daytime attack.

Banks had been accused of planning and sponsoring an attack on rival rapper Quando Rondo, actual name Tyquian Bowman. Prosecutors claimed the alleged conspiracy was intended as retaliation for the death of Banks’ close friend, Dayvon “King Von” Bennett, who was killed in Atlanta two years ago.

The shooting occurred in August 2022 at a gas station near the Beverly Center shopping mall in Los Angeles, California. According to prosecutors, the attackers were hunting for Bowman but killed his 24-year-old cousin, Saviay’a Robinson, in a burst of gunfire.

Lil Durk Acquittal Brings Not Guilty Verdict

Banks denied any involvement in the alleged conspiracy and pled not guilty to the allegations. His defense team claimed that a former personal aide planned the attack to impress the rapper.

The former assistant and two other associates of Banks later entered plea bargains and testified for prosecutors in the case. Despite the prosecution’s assertions that Banks was behind the plot, the jury found him not guilty of the charges filed against him in the trial, which concluded on Friday.

Two other defendants, Deandre Dontrell Wilson and David Brian Lindsey, were also cleared of murder-for-hire accusations. However, both men were convicted on separate counts of stalking conspiracy, stalking with a dangerous weapon, and stalking resulting in murder.

Rapper Still Faces Another Federal Trial

The acquittal does not imply that Banks is being released from custody. He is still incarcerated and is set to face another federal trial on October 5.

That separate prosecution covers murder-related racketeering and weapons allegations. Wilson and Lindsey are also set to face trial on the same charges.

Banks was caught at a Florida airport in October 2024, after five other suspects had been charged in the investigation. According to a federal indictment, he led a violent gang comprised of members affiliated with his record company, One of the Family.

The indictment stated that the organization had committed crimes such as robbery, murder, and drug trafficking. Banks has disputed the claims against him.

Banks is also recognized for his great music career. He received the 2024 Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance for his song “All My Life.”

Following Friday’s verdict, fans of the rapper gathered outside the federal courthouse in downtown Los Angeles to celebrate his acquittal. The rapper’s legal battle, however, will continue, with a separate trial scheduled for October.
