Stock Market Today: Indian equities are likely to start Thursday’s session on a positive note after gains across Wall Street and a firm trend in Gift Nifty. However, investors may remain cautious as the US-Iran conflict continues to create uncertainty and higher crude oil prices could add pressure on the market.

Gift Nifty was trading around 24,091, up about 91 points from the previous close of Nifty futures. The early trend suggests a better opening for the Sensex and Nifty 50.

Ajit Mishra, Senior Vise President of Research at Religare Brokerage Ltd., urged investors to exercise caution in the current market scenario. He advised keeping position sizes minimal and exercising careful risk management as volatility remained high.

Stock Market Today: Global Markets Set the Tone

On Thursday, Asian markets showed conflicting signals. Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 0.21%, while the wider Topix index rose 0.67%.

South Korea likewise witnessed a mixed session. The Kospi advanced 1.07%, while the Kosdaq declined 0.36%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index futures indicated a slightly higher opening.

Given the mixed trend in Asian markets, Indian investors will be paying close attention to global cues throughout the opening session.

Wall Street Ends Higher

Following three straight sessions of losses, US equities rallied on Wednesday. Investors returned to specific equities, allowing all three major US indexes to finish in positive territory.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 53,061.89, up 295.01 points (0.56%). The S&P 500 rose 35.16 points, or 0.46%, to finish at 7,666.63.

The Nasdaq Composite rose 118.05 points, or 0.45%, to close at 26,217.83.

Gains on Wall Street may lend assistance to Indian markets at the start of Thursday’s trading session.

US-Iran Conflict Remains a Risk

Geopolitical changes are another important consideration for investors. The US and Iran unleashed their most intense assault since July, with the US striking Iran’s southern coast and Tehran hitting US sites in the region.

United States President Donald Trump has also warned fresh strikes. He stated that the US currently has “almost total control” of the Strait of Hormuz.

Any additional escalation has the potential to impact investor sentiment and crude oil prices. Rising oil costs are especially critical for India, which relies heavily on imported petroleum.

FCNR(B) Deposits and RBI Data

Foreign currency flows are being monitored as well. According to preliminary Reserve Bank of India data, FCNR(B) deposits totaled $127.2 billion.

Overseas foreign-currency borrowings added $5.26 billion, while external commercial borrowings added $3.89 billion. The RBI reported that overall inflows had reached $136.4 billion as of August 31.

Gold Rate Today

Gold prices stayed stable after rising 1% the previous session. The surge ended the precious metal’s three-day slump.

Spot gold prices rose 0.1% to $4,386.94 per ounce. Silver also increased 0.1% to $65.38 per ounce.

For Indian investors, the opening direction of the Sensex and Nifty 50 will be determined by a combination of global market gains, geopolitical developments, crude oil prices, and domestic financial flows.
