Trump Hormuz Map : US President Donald Trump has raised tensions with Iran by posting a map of the Strait of Hormuz and referring to the strategically crucial waterway as “New U.S. Territory.” His latest article has added to the continuing conflict between Washington and Tehran over the fate of the key maritime route.

Trump shared the image on his Truth Social account on Saturday, referring to the Strait of Hormuz as American territory. The decision came amid ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran as a result of the consequences from the two countries’ peace agreement.

Trump Hormuz Map Adds to Growing US-Iran Dispute

Trump already discussed the future of the Strait of Hormuz during an August 14 address on Long Island. He stated that the canal could soon become a US jurisdiction. A few days later, on August 18, he posted the identical photograph on social media, once again emphasizing his point.

The Strait of Hormuz has become a major area of contention between the US and Iran. The Trump administration has demanded that Tehran reopen the crucial waterway, through which around one-fifth of global crude oil exports regularly travel.

Iran, on the other hand, has insisted on maintaining control of the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian authorities have also sharply criticized Trump’s words, warning that any moves to exert US control over the waterway might have dire implications.

Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, criticized Trump’s stance in a post on X earlier this week. He contended that Washington’s failure to close the strait contradicted its claim of sovereignty, and viewed the issue as part of a shifting regional order.

Iran and Oman Discuss Safe Route Through Hormuz

In the midst of the conflict, Iran and Oman have achieved an agreement on a safe passage for vessels via the Strait of Hormuz. However, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Esmail Baghaei stated that full security in the waterway will be restored only if the United States lifted its sanctions and naval blockade.

Baghaei attributed the strait’s vulnerability to US military intervention. He claimed that Iran, the region, and the international community were forced to accept the current scenario.

The Strait of Hormuz is still critical to world energy supplies since it transports a large part of crude oil cargoes. As a result, any protracted disruption might have an impact on global energy and shipping markets.

Trump Warns Oman Over Iran Deal

The dispute has also heightened tensions between Washington and Oman. Trump has warned Oman against forging an agreement with Iran that may jeopardize US efforts in the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump went much farther, threatening military action against Oman if Muscat blocked US interests. Oman has not officially replied to the alleged threat.
